Analyzing
THE TEACHER OF MUSIC HAS SKILLS IN LISTENING TO, ANALYZING, AND DESCRIBING MUSIC
KNOWLEDGE
PERFORMANCE
REFLECTION
Being able to dive into the music that you are presenting to your class is a must. Picking quality literature means spending quality time with it. If one is truly supposed to spread the understanding of music by teaching it in our classroom, we must know our pieces inside and out. If we do not take the time to analyze the music, we can not teach it to students with the proper meaning and understanding behind it.
ARTIFACTS
While presenting pieces from Music Memory, I made sure to always get the video maps for all of the pieces. Music Memory is a great program to get students engaged in classical music. I have also set up an online blog for my students to discuss each piece with their peers outside of class. You can view my class website here.
