THE TEACHER OF MUSIC HAS SKILLS IN READING AND WRITING MUSIC
KNOWLEDGE
PERFORMANCE
REFLECTION
If a music educator does not have this skill, they are doing harm to them and their program. Saying one needs the ability to compose doesn’t mean they need the ability to compose an extravagant symphony, but taking something that is relevant to your classroom and your students and making it personal to you and them. For example you can create a composition about your class fish. You must also be able to understand the different needs of your students and be able to transpose a piece you are working on into a different key, or move something down the octave. Causing kids aggravation will only hinder their learning process.
ARTIFACTS
Here is book I've been working on for our our recorders, adding music as we move along through the process. I feel that I have already made a lot more progress this year basing my units off of singing and solfege than just trying the traditional way of just putting music in front of the students.
